Shevchenko Park (Odessa)

Central Park of Culture and Recreation of Taras Shevchenko is a park in Odessa. It is located in the central part of Odessa city. It carries the name of Taras Shevchenko since 1954.
==History==
At the end of 18th century after the conquest of Khadzhibey in 1795 near the Cape Langeron existed fortifications, Odessa fortress that part of so called the Dniester defensive line. In the center of the fortress was located a mound with the Saint Andrew bastion. After another Russo-Turkish War in 1811 the fortress was reorganized into a portside quarantine, while within there was created a quarantine cemetery.
On the city maps of middle 19th century the area of quarantine was indicated as the "Serf's Garden". In 1840 according to the plans of architect Francesco Boffo the quarantine was transformed to a garden that belonged to a military agency rather than city.
Officially the park was opened on 7 September 1875 and on 10 September named as the Alexander Park after Alexander II of Russia who visited Odessa and himself planted an oak at the park's opening.
In 1936 in the park was built the Stadium of Koscior today known as the Chornomorets Stadium.
